Galveston County Museum Exhibits Updated with Audio

GALVESTON — The Galveston County Museum is home to a diverse collection of exhibits that embody the heart and culture of Galveston. Their free exhibits on the World Wars and the 1900 Storm are the most beloved, but they also host a unique, rotating Mardi Gras display as well as are the only museum to provide a coroner’s book overseeing the devastation of the 1900 Storm. The museum is also recognized by the Texas Association of Museums for its award-winning podcast Unboxing History, which can be found on Spotify and YouTube.

Galveston County Museum believes that everyone has a right to access the rich history of Galveston and so is proud to announce the installation of supplementary audio narration for the museum’s most popular exhibits. Military history, the 1900 Storm, and several other collections will now have QR code displays that read the associated exhibit plaques to visitors in English. Different exhibits also provide different voices to immerse listeners in the narrative of each scene. “It is our hope that this will expand the experience for many of our visitors who struggle with reading text that is traditionally small,” says Jodi, the Director and Curator. Galveston County Museum’s mission is to further the knowledge of and foster an appreciation for the unique, diverse, and exciting history and heritage of Galveston County, and additional efforts are always being made to make its exhibits more approachable for everyone.
